CHILDREN EYE EXAMINATION

Infant’s brain learns how to use eyes to see just like it learns how to use legs to walk or mouth to form words. The longer a vision problem goes undiagnosed and untreated, the more a child's brain learns to accommodate the vision problem. Vision development and eye health problems are easier to correct if treatment begins early. Therefore, even if no eye or vision problems are apparent all children should be examined by the age of 6 months, 3 years and yearly thereafter. During the exam in KRC Optometry Centre we will gather information on family history or any vision problems your children might have had before. Then your doctor will test for excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, eye movement ability and eye health problems. These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at this young age.

Beyond checking vision, we also ensure that colour vision and reading ability are normal. We understand that children can become nervous about eye doctor visits, so we go above and beyond to make sure your little ones not only feel safe and comfortable, but also actually enjoy the experience.
